Beyond Immigration Solutions: Cross-Campus Collaboration on International Student Financial Challenges

Presentation Description: Since the pandemic, many campuses have seen a rise in financial challenges facing international students. Some students face changes in support due to mercurial global economic and political forces while others underestimate the actual cost of living in the U.S. . Financial pressure contributes to mental health struggles, poor academic performance, and housing and food insecurity. This session brings perspectives from public and private institutions to offer interventions across the student lifecycle from pre-arrival to preparation for graduation and work authorization.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn about a variety tools from enrollment offices, student affairs, and ISSS offices to address financial struggles in international student populations
  • Participants will gain an understanding of F-1 and J-1 immigration options for combating financial hardship
  • Participants will gain understanding through real-life case studies and scenarios
