How to Combat “Moral Injury” as DSOs and AROs

Presentation Description: Moral injury occurs when actions required by authority conflict with core values, originally noted in military veterans but now seen in professions like medicine, law enforcement, and education. In International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), DSOs and AROs face similar conflicts when reporting immigration status violations. This session addresses identifying and coping with moral injury.

Understand the concept of “moral injury” within ISSS
Discuss the impacts of “moral injury” on DSOs and AROs within the context of reporting immigration status violations
Identify coping strategies and tools with which to reduce the negative impacts of “moral injury” on DSOs and AROs
