Intercambio:Promoting Language Learning through Conversation Partner Activities and Games

Presentation Description: Join us for an interactive, engaging workshop showcasing various learning games and activities to promote inclusive language and cultural awareness in difficult conversations. Activities in this presentation are adaptable for facilitating various learning goals, including language learners learners building confidence and confidence before a semester or year abroad, newcomers learning to navigate differences in cultural norms, or international students preparing for academic success in the United States. Speakers of all languages and abilities are welcome!

Learning Objectives:

  • During my presentation, attendees will participate in various games and activities modeling conversational exchange, as well as learn how to modify or adapt them for different learning goals.
  • During my presentation, attendees will examine transcripts based on real language exchanges for techniques on how to approach difficult conversations.
  • After my presentation, attendees will be able to identify various techniques of being an effective conversation facilitater, and be able to promote these techniques in their own learning spaces.
