UNESCO Story Circles: A 'Train the Trainer' Session
Sunday, October 27, 2024
3:45 PM – 4:45 PM EDT
Location: Meeting Room 23
Join us for “Story Time” NAFSA-style. This approachable and interactive session will introduce UNESCO Story Circles as a methodology for developing intercultural competencies. This tool was originally created in 2020 by Dr. Darla Deardorff as a structured way to practice key intercultural skills, such as listening for understanding. Audience members will engage in story circles as participants before debriefing the experience as a larger group. The goal is for attendees to leave the session with a concrete intercultural development tool that they can easily put into practice with students and staff in the future. The bonus is the opportunity to connect with fellow NAFSA Region XI colleagues on a deeper level while building your own intercultural competence!
*Please arrive on time for this session in order to fully participate in the activity.
Learning Objectives:
Learn about the history and utilization of UNESCO Story Circles as a successful intercultural development tool.
Actively engage as participants in Story Circles with small groups; with an opportunity to develop their own intercultural competencies.
Identify training tools to administer this intercultural competence development experience on your own campus, or with your own target audience.
